Midsummer Updates from flb

Hi and happy Midsummer! I hope you are having some good dreams, and realities!  This is always my favorite time of year. Even when I’m not on vacation and working a lot (see upcoming special event with Black Hill Press below) I like the more relaxed feeling around town and at home as my children can sleep in and don’t have homework.

Speaking of homework:
Writing Classes starting in September!
I’ll be starting my ten week online class September 7th How To Structure Your Novel/Short Story etc. in 12 Easy Steps, and an in person workshop September 20th in Culver City.  I may add a week day class if there is enough interest.
As always, I’m available for private manuscript consultations.
And I’m continuing to teach Fiction at UCLA Extension and at Antioch University. At Antioch we are building the Writing for Young People program and looking for published Young Adult authors to give readings and seminars. It’s a lot of fun and the students are wonderful. The focus is on social justice and diversity.  Contact me if you are interested in information about the program as a student or visiting lecturer.

Here's what one of my best known students has to say:
"I couldn't think of a better person to edit my first book. Francesca's insightful suggestions imbued my manuscript with absolute magic."--Gala Darling

Interview with Anna Akana and Brad Gage for Explain Things to Me
I was fortunate enough to have the lovely actress, writer, director, producer and Youtube star, Anna Akana, in my UCLA Extension class a few years ago. She and Brad Gage interviewed me for their popular Youtube Show Explain Things to Me:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whfeUUu0ev0&feature=share

Interview with Black Hill Press for the Eichler Sessions Saturday, August 1st 6 to 8 PM in Orange
Eichler Sessions are a series of conversations with creative pioneers hosted in historic Eichler homes.  During the early 1950s, home-builder Joseph Eichler influenced the face of American architecture by building architect-designed, mass-produced homes at affordable prices for the average family. His classic, award-winning style remains the topic of discussion today. Orange is the site of 350 of the 600 Southern California Eichlers.
